After weeks of trying to get to the first big milestone,,, we did it! We got to 100 finds. Rather impressed with ourselves and we certainly celebrated.

It all happened when Sophie wanted to go along to the Paper City that was open from 30th June to the 9th July as part of the Capital of Culture, Hull 2017. Sophie is very enthusiastic about Hull and has encouraged others to visit Hull and always speaks about historic icons from Hull, Amy Johnson being her favourite.

“Ten days celebrating colour and the freedom to play – installations by some of the most exciting creative minds from the worlds of contemporary art, design and architecture – using the specialist coloured paper, Colorplan, from Hull company G . F Smith.” 

Our 100th find was outside the Hull Truck Theatre (GC705PV) and Sophie was so excited she ended up doing her own victory dance. Sophie made us giggle and she cannot wait to get to 200 now! Here’s her very own victory dance (and yes there were muggles around but she didn’t care).

On the 2nd July we went to our first ever meet and greet event. At the events local Geocachers all attend and exchange stories as well as travel bugs they may have. Travel bugs are ‘trackables’ which you can track on the website, they travel from cache to cache with the help of other geocachers.

The event was in aide of Canada Day and you could gain a special digital souvenir, the perfect incentive for us to take ourselves to the event. It was at Red Sails next to the Clive Sullivan Way in Hull, which is just down the road from us.

The kids enjoyed meeting other ‘Geokids’ and we enjoyed meeting familiar ‘usernames’ as you get to know which users are near you and see the users on the log books and activity feed for each cache.

We discovered over 20 Travel Bugs and the event classed as a find so we got to ’95’. How exciting we are almost at a 100.

Sophie has been wanting to earn a Brownie’s Badge since she began Brownies just a couple of months ago. We have finally found one that will fit in with our hobby, the hobby badge. One of the requirements is to keep a 4 week diary of what she does in her hobby. Sophie has made her own diary and has started to build it already with photos and an explanation of our adventures. Sophie is very excited and we will be recording some of our adventures on this blog of course.

Sophie has even recorded our profile stats on the first day of starting the log book to see how we improve in the 4 weeks.

The stats at the beginning: Found 79/ Hidden 4.

Lets see if we can break 100 in these 4 weeks ahead which is a mark we have all been trying to reach.

Sophie and Riley wanted their own phone to Geocaching and Sophie loved taking my iPhone off my hands and reading peoples comments when we got stuck!

This idea then came to play when Nanny (Judy) suggested that the kids had notebooks for when we are out and about and in restaurants, something to do whilst waiting for the food to arrive. The idea came together nicely to make Adventure Logs and for the last few weeks they have been used to describe what we get up to on an adventure. Sometime’s Sophie and Riley want us to draw the trail and so they can cross of the caches of themselves.

You may have already guessed the photo is of Sophie and Riley Geocaching.

This was on a Stick Trail, number one is found at GC4803N. You will need to be a premium member to be able to do the trail but its only £25 a year.

We thought we would let Sophie introduce you to Geocaching as she did such a fantastic job with it on YouTube. In fact she did so well that she received more views than our wedding highlights (which has been on YouTube for 12 months) within 24 hours. Sophie was also very excited to see that The Geocaching Vlogger (Joshua) had commented on her video as we have been watching a lot of his videos.

We absolutely love Geocaching and have been doing it for a mont now. We want to take you on our adventures with us. The children will be involved in helping with this blog as we have taken on Geocaching as a family hobby.

We were so excited to see that our article went into Jun-July 2017 issue of the UK Cache Mag. In fact we ended up on 3 pages of the magazine which was very exciting to see. Sophie took it into school and is taking it into Brownies, Riley loved seeing his stick man soft toy on the picture and Robyn simple giggled and said ‘there there’.
