A mum’s night out…

I was gifted a night out at my friends newly opened Cocktail Bar- Bambino’s. So excited for her new venture and I’m glad to be able to celebrate and share it with you.

First of all, I have to say I don’t go out that often because of the three kids. When I say out, I mean ‘out out’. To be able to enjoy a night out and let my hair down was going to be a treat.

Bambino’s is located on Princess Avenue in Hull, East Yorkshire. It’s next to a restaurant called Luccas.

Going into the bar it has a classy feel with the stylish interior and furniture. I particularly loved the copper look woven in subtly. Cage like shelving above the bar for the glasses and cocktail making bits with the hanging lighting really gives the place an atmosphere.

There’s a flower wall and selfie board with lots of photo opportunities, what’s not to like?

The cocktail menu is in Italian, for me I am ordering blind but I don’t mind that at because I’ve always stuck with the usual favourite cocktails before heading into Bambino’s and trying something different.

We went on their Halloween night and there was a special cocktail menu just for the weekend. I had a poison apple cocktail and it was delicious, fruity with a big enough kick for me. I’m always wary about ordering from special menus but you can tell they have been carefully created.

I don’t think I’ve seen cocktails this big before!! Wow, for £21.95 they are a bargain price with plenty to share with your friends.

DJ Darren Williams was playing as it was a Friday evening, Daz is the resident DJ for Friday and Saturday. I enjoyed the music and once the night got going a little there was time for a boogie with just enough dance floor space.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tilly Sparks who is now their resident Queen for Wicked Wednesdays, there will be 241 cocktails on top of the 10% student discount as well as free entry and optional free transport from the University. I will be going along to see Tilly in action sometime in the near future.

I had a lovely night with some of my blogger friends, add in some drinks and theres a little room for selfies, boogieing and some facepaint. In the photo at the top is myself, Rachael and Kat. Below photo’s of Ed, Lizzie and I.

I would like to congratulate Zoe, Callum, Luke and all staff on providing a great night out with a cocktail menu I want to work my way through. I’ll definitely be returning and cannot wait for a Wicked Wednesday and also Lazy Sundays.

Hull Fish Trail

A couple of month’s ago we had a local adventure in discovering the Fish Trail in Hull City Centre. I had completed this as a child but despite living back here for over five years, I hadn’t taken my three children to discover the 41 different spots.

Friends On Every Street

This afternoon we enjoyed the sun and went along to the first day of Friends On Every Street pop up store. To be honest we have been excited to go along to this event since we discovered the reason behind the ‘Peter Levy Changed My Life- 29.06.2019’ when I posted our family feet pic on Insta. Glad to say that this photo has been used by Friends On Every Street and the Fruit Market as well.

As soon as we walked down Humber Street we could see where the pop-up shop was because of the people crowding around the entrance, we soon found out that Peter Levy himself was present. What a fab turn out and soon you could see a sea of people wearing the iconic shirts.

Anyway, we decided we couldn’t miss it and with the build up on social media it has been enticing. The kids were also intrigued to find out what all the fuss was about. There’s lots of photo’s to come because there was so much to take in, we have narrowed it down but it was difficult. It is well worth the visit if you don’t have anything to do tomorrow or just go anyway, it will be the last day and open from 12 midday. There’s refreshments and music which gives it a brilliant atmosphere.

There was a lot to observe and it felt like an alternative art gallery, there were lots of photo opportunities and with directions and instructions we couldn’t go wrong.

We were particularly excited about this photo opportunity, Robyn our youngest wanted to pose for the camera but Riley was taking the mick out of me because I had a snap taken laying down before (cheeky thing).

A snapshot of the wall’s and what there is to see, we spent a while observing and having a nosey around. As I mentioned before, it felt like an alternative art gallery that expressed the love of Hull (its people, places and slang).

Peter Levy was present and so it only felt right to grab a photo with him. We had met him last year at the Freedom Festival and Sophie had a picture with Peter then, Sophie wasn’t shy to let him know of this and I mentioned she had his signed sticker on her bed frame. It made it more memorable and Sophie won’t forget it, she gave him a hug which was quite sweet.

Sophie says “Peter Levy is a very nice guy who is very intelligent. The wall art was amazing because it had all the colours of the rainbow”

It wouldn’t have been complete without an Insta wall with a lot of the fun gimmicky work of Friends On Every Street. We spent a lot of time giggling to ourselves and perhaps sniggering as well, even coming home and looking back on the photo’s we found new re-created logo’s we hadn’t spotted before.

We couldn’t resist splashing the cash to buy some local swag and investing in a Levy’s shirt, pin badge and sticker pack! We congratulate Friends On Every Street for their genius work and have enjoyed seeing their journey so far, we look forward to seeing what’s yet to come.

My MacBook has had a make over and I certainly feel ‘cool’, yes I said it. My hubby has been subtle with his placement of his sticker as you can see, clearly didn’t want to potentially over kill it (like me).

Urban Legends: Northern Lights

Friday 30th and the Gilmour’s set out into Hull City Centre for the Urban Legends: Northern Lights. It’s only on until the 2nd December and so we thought going on a Friday  may be quieter, especially with three children to walk around and get good views.

A FREE event to enjoy on an autumn evening.

We started at the Hull Minster which was indoors and a mesh like screen which made the display look 3D, I have shared some of the footage in the video if you keep scrolling down. It was fascinating but our three year old found it scary and we didn’t stay long, there is also a one way system which you don’t realise until you try and get out. It wasn’t a good start to our evening but we persevered and it was worth it.

An interactive walkway proved popular for our three children and it was rather impressive as you walked almost the whole length of Parliament Street. Rob and I rather enjoyed it as well, the sound effects and change in the walkway, it was a beautiful and colourful display.

A teepee in the Queens Gardens with a projection from the inside out and I was delighted to see a signer for the hearing impaired.

Oh the night!

We were very excited to see a fox feature in the story and the older children were able to follow the wording of the story. An amazing choir that brought it to life even more and lasting around 15 minutes. Check out the video below.

We didn’t however take advantage of the 3 shop windows on Whitefriargate due to having the pram for our youngest and not wanting to fight the crowd. If you get a chance to go and you have children, try and get there earlier in the day and check out Whitefriargate first, considering to not take a pram may be the best option for viewing on this area.

Museum of the Moon

Yesterday evening we went a long to our second Freedom Festival event. Earlier this week we went along to The Print Shop in preparation for the weekends events.

The opening of the Museum of the Moon in the Hull Minster was Thursday evening and so we thought going along to beat some of the crowd at the weekend would make it more special. It was worth it!

The moon is made with real NASA imagery and 1cm of this moon represents 5km of the real moon itself. I think that in itself drew us to look at the detail. Photos are hard to capture because it looks like a 2D moon but it is a sphere.

The three children were in awe of it and wanted plenty of photographs with the moon.

Even we couldn’t resist it…

We are planning to come back and see the moon lit up at night as well. If you are local to Hull then we recommend you stopping by to see this installation for the festival. Over the weekend you can go along to see the moon from 12pm until 10pm. The moon is staying a little longer then the festival, FreedomKj1964 informs me it’s the 15th September.

The Freedom Festival is on now until late Sunday 2nd September. This is our third year of attendance and our first year planning out what we go to see rather than walking around and bumping into everything.

PRINT YOUR SLOGAN T-SHIRT

RISE (up) and express yourself at Freedom Festival 2018 with your own personally designed slogan t-shirt created at ‘The Print Shop’ in Whitefriargate

Opening on the 25 August – 2 September

Ahead of Freedom Festival 2018 and in readiness for presenting RISE! we are launching a temporary pop up art studio, The Print Shop, to encourage a collective expression of Freedom.

The Print Shop is equipped with print technology, placards, banners, t-shirts and all sorts of crafty and creative materials providing you with a fully accessible expression centre to develop your voice and make it heard.

Here’s inside The Print Shop and other people’s slogans. The gentleman who helped us was very friendly and walked us through everything we needed to do. We spent quite a lot of time finding our slogan and started with words that meant a lot to us. I will explain our slogans below, in the order we are photographed.

Rob (AKA Daddy): ‘HOPELESS‘ Rob has reminded me of one of his favourite quotes in the years I have known him ‘Even the word hopeless has the word hope in it’. It really does make a difference to our thinking and its an important one to share, you may not see very well on his shirt but LESS is set in red.

Riley: ‘HELP PEOPLE OUT’ Last year Riley was a school councillor at his primary school and he took his role very seriously, his school also introduced the school buddy system and they are other pupils that help others out in times of need. Riley’s slogan has come from this thought process and he is proud to wear his shirt.

Sophie: ‘CLEAN WORLD FOR ALL’ Sophie is very passionate about the world she lives in and has certainly learnt a lot through her achievement of Senior Wilderness Explorer. It started with recycling, animals, environment and resulted in her four worded slogan.

Jenny/me (AKA Mummy): ‘TOGETHER WE ARE LOUDER’ I have cheated a little as I had formed this slogan a month or so ago with the help of my street team and linking to what I do with my work. Together we are louder meaning one voice can be heard but a group of people saying the same thing will be listened to and potentially resulting in actioning the message.

Robyn: LOVE/CHANGE Believe it or not, this came from the words Frozen and Pink. It formed into ‘Change is possible with love’ but this was a bit long for a small shirt and with the volunteers help we formed the two words. If you think of the Disney movie Frozen its quite a message that has come from a movie.

The next step was to hunt for the letters in the tubs and put our shirts together to go to print. The children found this very exciting and couldn’t wait to put them on and show off.

They even got to peel the paper, to reveal their final piece of work.

This is a free activity but I believe they accept donations.

We will be wearing our shirts around the Freedom Festival this year, to be a part of the art. The main time to wear these is for the Rise Up Friday night event and we can’t wait to read everyone else’s shirts and be a part of the community in a visual way.
