Sophie’s review of Skycircus by Peter Bunzl

I wrote this book review last year and have got around to typing it up for you to enjoy.

Skycircus is the third book in the series, the first is called Cogheart and the second is Moonlocket. You may want to read these first as this review may contain spoilers.

Skysircus starts with a ticket for a circus and Lily’s mum’s notebook which was discovered at the beginning of the story. Lily ends up going to the circus and everyone knows it’s her birthday she receives free gifts. she watches the show, but as she is about to exit, she gets surrounded by Security and they carry her to a cell-like room (while she is non-conscious)  with some of the performers. Lily picks the locks in the cell to break free and makes a plan to escape. Lily’s friend Robert nearly dies because he got punished by Mr. Slimwood who is the bad guy, Robert tries to balance on a tightrope high over some tigers and bears and ends up falling onto the ground. In Paris, their plan goes as expected, they end up escaping Mr. Slimwood and Madam Lions-Mane as they were very wanted criminals for stealing Lily’s papa’s papers.

I felt like I had to keep turning the pages to find out what was going to happen, I couldn’t put the book down.

I recommend it to people who like fictional books with adventure and danger.

I rate it 3 out of 5 stars. I rated Skycircus this because it doesn’t have Robert’s mum and sister in it, I had become attached to those characters in the previous book. It did have action and kept me wondering what was going to happen which is what I enjoyed the most.

Creative Writing Camp by Sophie

I joined in Lexi Rees’ Creative Writing Camp in July, it was amazing.

Lexi guided us from day 1 to day 5 through the amount of writing we all needed and planing ideas. The aim was to write a book in a week, we joined in on Zoom sessions each day

I had so much fun writing it with help from Lexi and my mum who gave great ideas of describing how the room would look like or who the characters were. The best part was the writing because it was endless of describing the characters and the place they were in.

On day 1 everyone made this planning roller coaster with our ideas of how we wanted the story to go once we did we started to write our first to paragraphs.

SPOILER ALERT!!

I managed to make a good-sized story thankfully, I haven’t written the whole story here because you need to find out in the future!!

My story was about a princess and king who are about to eat their garlic cheese bread. Nuria starts to choke and they hear a noise. The figure finally appears and takes the kings priceless crown. Nuria finds a map, they go to the X marks the spot at the spooky cave. I will stop there because I want to publish the book itself.

Sophie and her book

I rate the group 5/5 for giving me ideas and helping develop writing skills.

Also great group Lexi, it was so much fun and something to do during lockdown and without my brother and sister annoying me; it relaxed and focused me so thank you for letting me do it.

This course was gifted in the exchange for a review and feedback but I loved it so much that I have joined the How to be a Journalist starting on the 10th August. Find out more about it here.

Sophie

This course was perfect for Sophie, it helped her imagination but also gave her the stages you need to write a book. I really enjoyed how the story began with printable activities. As a parent in lockdown, this was an affordable course that kept giving, Sophie made a friend within the week and it gave us a little break as well. The fact that Lexi is an author herself makes it even more of a worthy investment. We are a part of her Kids Club and this is a fun and educational resource.

Sophie’s review of Moonlocket book by Peter Bunzl

In the book there is a criminal on the loose called Jack Door he is after Roberts mum Selena who abandoned Robert when he was very little. Jack is after Selena because she is  Jacks daughter and she gave him up to the police 15 years ago. Lilly, Robert and Malkin’s job is to find Selena before Jack does so they travel on A airship from Brackenbridge (where Lilly lives) to London. Every time Jack goes somewhere he always leaves a playing card it is the Jack of diamonds it is always a clue. It is a book of mystery, sewage and clockwork.

I recommend it to people who love airships, adventure and shock.

I rate it 4 and a half out of 5 because I love the puzzles in the story and the place where it is set (in London) but it was really good. 🙂

Litter Picking by Sophie Gilmour

Last Saturday, we went out litter picking and it was raining but that didn’t stop us. We collected all sorts of rubbish including bottles, wipes, doggy bags and the biggest thing was a bikes mud guard. It was fun using the litter pickers but the things we collected were very gross. It was a nice in Hedon but the train station was old and of course it was run down but still safe. We saw cows and one was very close to me.

Sophie and the cows

At the end we had three whole bags of rubbish and we were not looking hard it was really fun to do. It was very quite and peaceful, we think the path is suitable for bikes because we saw a couple. When we got home from the cold Riley, Robyn and I had a hot chocolate. I think I would like to go there again to see the cows and do some more litter picking.

Have you been litter picking?

Sophie’s review of Cogheart book by Peter Bunzl

There is a girl called Lilly and everyone thinks her dad has died. But her family member Dr.Silverfish/Uncle wants this device called Cogheart. It is this mechanical heart that can keep you alive forever (I wouldn’t like that because your skin would go extremely wrinkly after 200 years) because he is really poorly. And so he had got a couple of evil people to try and find the Cogheart, but no one knows it is inside of Lilly’s body. She made a couple of friends 1st Robert his dad had died during this book. Also a fox the mechanical called Malkin who delivered a special note to Lilly and finally Anna who             flew the airship all the way to London for Lilly, Robert and Malkin.

I would recommend it to people who like SHOCK, DANGER and DARING!!!!

I rate it four out of five

Because it took a long time to get into the story for me but other than that great!!!
